"Nina Sky is Hip Hop, Rap, R'n'B, Reggae, Rock, Alternative, Jazz and Blues - limitless." Die eineiigen Zwillinge Natalie und Nicole Albino aus New Yorker kennen bei ihrem selbstbetitelten Debüt "Nina Sky" keine falsche Bescheidenheit. Unterstützt vom Produzententeam The Jettsonz und Radio-DJ Cipha Sound wildern die beiden Sängerinnen jedoch zumeist im Destiny's Child-Revier, diverse Ausflüge Richtung Reggae inklusive.

Gleich der Opener und erste Single "Move Ya Body" rollt als treibender Coolie Dance Riddim in die Clubs: der Hit des mauen Sommers. In eine ähnliche schwitzende Richtung schlägt "Turnin' Me On" mit netten Orient-Elektros. Die Schwestern entwickeln ein Faible für die Tanzmusik.

"Runaway" ist ein dumpf groovender Old School-Beat mit eingängiger Hookline, und "Holla Back" macht mit vielschichtigen Claps gekonnt auf Bounce-Brecher. Nina Sky schaffen es wie Beyoncé und Co, ihre R'n'B-Tunes knackig und frisch hüpfen zu lassen, indem sie den nötigen Ecken und Kanten im Sound genug Raum lassen.

Die im Intro beschriebene musikalische Bandbreite "ohne Limit" muss der aufgeschlossene Crossover-Fan jedoch mit dem Hörgerät suchen. "Temperature Rising" möchte eine balladeske Rock-Hymne sein, kann aber den Rhythm' And Blues-Touch nicht ablegen, während das kurze "Goodbye" zwischen Heather Nova und Wonderwall versandet.

Besser und stimmiger kommen die Zwillinge daher, wenn sie ihr DC-Fundament wie bei der anfangs erwähnten Single ein wenig auflockern, ohne sich bei Genremix-Weltrekord zu verkrampfen. So führt uns das langsame "In A Dream" mit Science-Fiction-Synthies in unbekannte Welten wie Star Trek. Nina Sky sind also doch irgendwie "limitless".
