After releasing a gospel album, Victory, for Christmas 2021, Soom T has returned to reggae with songs composed over the last ten years. During this decade, the Indian-born Scottish toastmaster has established herself as one of the greatest voices of European reggae, working with the likes of producer Disrupt from the German label Jahtari and Glaswegian soundsystem collective, Mungo’s Hi Fi. For Good, she enlisted the services of French producer Kiko, head of the Rub A Dub Mrkt label and ex-member of the backing band No More Babylon (Ken Boothe, Earl Sixteen…). This gives a large chunk of the album’s instrumentals a digital roots style, with sounds reminiscent of the 80s on My Struggle and dark minor scales on Yes My People. Some tracks are inspired by Gaudi, the Italian veteran of the dub scene (for example, on Don’t Stand for Dis and Steps), while others were recorded in Paris with The Stone Monks, the band that accompanies Soom T. There are elements of ska (World We Live In), dub (Get the Fruit) and digital reggae (One More Tune), which perfectly sum up the hyper versatility of this Glaswegian MC. © Smaël Bouaici/Qobuz
