Brilliant, versatile and top quality

I can only echo all the positive comments already made, this is one of the best products of any kind I have ever purchased. Fit and comfort, features, quality and versatility are all top notch, and to top it off it looks great too. I've had mine over two years and it shows every sign of lasting another ten; if I ever somehow managed to lose or wreck it I would simply buy another one straight away.

Excellent

The fact that I have never felt so passionately to leave a review on clothing before owning this jacket speaks volumes.

The versatility is incredible. Keeps you dry in light rain, warm when it’s cold, particularly great in wind, but genuinely breathable when pushing hard and perfectly comfortable regardless of what actively you are doing. I wear it in the car, on runs in winter, it’s my go to outer layer on most days walking in the uk, comfortably slept in it when needed extra warmth in my sleeping bag and formed my mid layer on expeditions above 6000m. It’s like the Swiss Army knife of outdoor jackets, only more robust. Washes and resists wear really well. Great sizing and placement of pockets. Hood works brilliantly both with and without helmet.

Downsides? It’s so good my wife wanted one too so now we have matching jackets, though thankfully in different colours.

Awsome jacket!

I've had my Frontier jacket for two years now and it remains the best softshell jacket I've ever owned. For me the Frontier usurped every other wind-shirt or softshell type jacket I was using to become my default outer layer. So good Is it that there has to be a seriously good reason for me NOT to wear it - belting down rain or just too warm are about it, and this Winter mine has seen more than 600 miles worth of satisfactory use. The close fit is fantastic - not excessively long in the body and Just right in the arms. I'm a short-torso 5'8'' with a 6'2'' 'wing-span'. The two-way front zip is more useful than I can describe and I like that the moulded plastic type are used for all the external zips. As for the hood - would that ALL jackets had one as good. Close fitting over a hat it nonetheless will accommodate a helmet if need and the softly 'wired' peak works perfectly to protect the eyes from wind-driven precipitation. The close fit and robust fabric make the Frontier totally non-flappy even in high winds, which is a real plus. Garments that act like sails in windy conditions are a pet hate so I just love the comfort, as well as the peace and quiet, that this jacket offers when it's 'rather breezy'!
Downsides? Well, it's a little heavy to lug around perhaps and it requires 'shave' to de-bobble it every now-and-then. I can live with that.

Fantastic jacket
4_5 out of 5

This is such a high quality and versatile jacket. It is well designed and the fit is spot on. Pockets are great and all adjustments are great. I have worn this on a cool summer day with a summer base layer and been well protected from unpredictable weather yet not overheating. I have also worn it with a warm base layer and thin microfleece to climb 3 mountains in the lakes on a very cold and windy November day. You can tailor your layers depending on conditions and your activity and this jacket will ensure you stay warm enough but not overheat, and stay dry from the inside as well as outside. It's a brilliant jacket and well worth full price let alone of you manage to get it on sale. I loved it so much I've gone for the ibex trousers to match which are made of the same material

Nice little softshell jacket

I was after a lightweight hooded softshell jacket, for commutes and walks. This is simply brilliant. Its warm enough to wear with a thin base layer. It does a good job of keeping the wind out as well as the rain.
The hood is very adjustable, it draws it in tight to prevent the wind from blowing it down or getting and causing a draught.
GoOutdoors were willing to offer and beat Black's asking price too. Postage was very quick.

Mountain Equipment Men's Frontier Hooded Softshell Jacket
4_5 out of 5

I was looking for a quality lightweight softshell, lighter than my current jacket. Initially seen the Frontier but thought it was a bit costly £108 (even though you know you're getting top quality with Mountain Equipment) then I was approached a friendly member of staff who got me a better price on PriceMatch (£84). This is a really high quality jacket that offers brilliant breathability, water resistance and windproof capabilty. Knowing now, I would be paid the full price but thanks to the gent in Warrington, I've got a quality item at a great price. Top jacket, top service.

Lightweight - Good Fit
4_5 out of 5

I went into the shop looking for a use-for-everything jacket that would be suitable for walking, running, cycling and this was my pick. I found the alternatives from Rab, Montane, Beghaus etc did not have as good a fit, being especially tight across the chest and I am not exactly massive. This one appears to have a good fit for me in arm and chest and length. It is also a bit stretchy so it gives if you are doing something active. It is also pretty good in the rain. Especially bought for the summer because of the excellent weight and breathability, but recent wet weather suggests it would be my first choice for colder weather too, with enough room for another layer. I have only had the jacket a short time so I cannot comment on the durability, but it looks well made with some nice touches..

I particularly like the hood which is not as cumbersome as some other mountaineering hoods designed for helmets.

Brilliant jacket
4_5 out of 5

I bought this jacket a month ago as a general purpose summer weight outer-layer. Though in that time this jacket has been in a ton of different environments.

Day to day this jacket wears so comfortably, I'm 6'3" and went for a medium for a close athletic fit, and it feels so nice to wear. The lining is really soft of bare skin and the stretch of the fabric makes it feel like you aren't wearing anything. Add to that, it's super lightweight and it makes the perfect jacket for throwing in a bag in case the weather gets worse.

I've taken it out to the Peaks and it didn't disappoint there. In biting winds I stayed perfectly warm as it keeps every bit of wind out. Even if you're caught in a shower it should keep you dry enough.

The only problems are the price, yes it's a lot, but the built quality, weight and versatility more than make up for it.

The only other issue is there is only just enough room in the shoulders for me. Though if I'd have bought the size up that wouldn't have been a problem.

All in all I couldn't recommend this jacket more.
