Chic and contemporary, Velassaru appeals to style-hunters and seclusion-seekers.
Velassaru’s white sand beach and bright turquoise lagoon create a real wow factor on arrival. Things only get better – with contemporary villas and bungalows, sensational restaurants, and a showstopping spa. And that’s all before what awaits in the big blue beyond.
Why we love Velassaru Maldives
-
Contemporary villas and bungalows have authentic thatched roofs that give the resort a lovely far-flung aesthetic
-
Modern styling with pops of aqua are comfortably and accessibly luxurious
-
An ice cream cart circles the island daily, offering complimentary scoops
-
Cinema nights on the beach, complete with popcorn
Rooms
There are 129 rooms and bungalows here. The beach rooms at Velassaru have some of the biggest and loveliest indoor/outdoor bathrooms. Deluxe Bungalows are individual split-level buildings a few metres from the water, with a raised sleeping area as well as a garden bathroom and outdoor shower. We love the close-to-the-sand Deluxe Villas which each feature a wonderfully private garden. Sleek Beach Villas are thatched cottages facing the beach, with little extras such as a wine chiller. There’s also a choice of villas with pools and beautiful Water Villas on stilts over the ocean.
Facilities

While Vela will be your main go-to, don’t miss the other restaurants to mix things up and spend an evening over the lagoon at Teppanyaki or on the beach at Sand.
Vela
The main restaurant is set in lush foliage. It offers international buffet dining, live cooking stations and signature specialities with a twist.
Teppanyaki
In a prime spot over the bright turquoise lagoon, you’ll find contemporary Japanese cuisine with a menu of sushi, salads, and premium dishes from the land, sea, and garden.
Turquoise
With a relaxed atmosphere in an intimate setting under the palms, Turquoise serves a menu of light bites, salads, burgers and pizzas alongside meat and fish dishes.
Etesian
Mediterranean-inspired dishes served in a modern restaurant setting.
Sand
Candlelit tables scattered on the beach with private dining pavilions. Indulge in beautifully prepared Pan-Indian Ocean specialities or choose from the chef’s signature menu.
Fen Bar
Cool and funky, with dark wood, mood lighting, low music and luxurious daybeds. Outdoors, there are beanbags and hammocks for lounging.
Chill Bar
Ultra-comfy lounging, with daybeds and huge tables on a deck at the water’s edge. There are canopies for shade in the heat of the day. Tapas and expertly mixed cocktails will see you through the evening.
Moody lighting and a wall of wine make Etesian a lovely place for a special evening, complete with menu classics like lobster thermidor and duck leg confit.

We have a new favourite place on earth: Velassaru. From the moment we set foot on the island, we were in love. The romantic vacation of our lifetime. And obviously it ended up with our engagement; what better place to take the next step in our relationship? Everything was a 5-star experience: the magical beach villa (with pool), the just amazing, fresh and beautiful food served in all the restaurants (Velassaru Indulgence package was so worth the money), the morning walks around the quiet island just waking up, the sunset drinks in Chill Bar, the well-equipped gym, the unreal colours of the water, the sand, the vegetation, and finally, and most important, the unbelievably friendly and professional staff, always walking the extra mile to give us the best possible vacation, always with a smile on their faces, and always with that personal touch that you appreciate so much as a guest (we still can’t understand how all of you remembered who we were and in which room we stayed). This was truly a memory for life, we are already looking forward to visiting you again soon. / Myrtel & Niclas in 214

We returned to Velassaru this year having spent an idyllic ten days there last year and immediately thought "we must go back there". So what's so good about the place - well everything really! Firstly access from the airport is simple; you pick up your bags, walk through the exit and get on a speed boat! The trip to the island is less than half an hour where you are met by very friendly staff who whisk your luggage away whilst you are checked in. The rooms are fantastic - we stayed in a water villa with pool although the pool is really a plunge pool and not one for doing lengths in - with a huge bed and windows everywhere revealing the incredible turquoise waters. Fish are aplenty including small harmless sharks, rays and trigger fish which will bite you if they decide to. There are numerous restaurants although the buffet is the best offering top quality food and the bar is fine although in my opinion I would get rid of the "disco" nights and live music - lets just chill. Finally the staff are incredibly helpful and kind an d I give a big thank to Reeja in the restaurant, Wasantha the chef and his oriental colleague who prepared me the best sushi dish I have ever had. Great place, don't miss it.I'll see you there next February!!!

Colazione gustosa e molto assortita. Ci vediamo l’anno prossimo! Nataliya & Roberto
